Neil Gaiman to Adapt Gormenghast for TV

Mervyn Peake’s classic novel Gormenghast is coming back to television, this time adapted by Neil Gaiman, himself, and Avika Goldsman. FremantleMedia North America, which adapted American Gods for TV, has acquired the rights to the trilogy.

“There is a reason why there were two trilogies that lovers of the fantasy genre embraced in the Sixties: Lord of the Rings, and the Gormenghast books. It’s an honor to have been given the opportunity to help shepherd Peake’s brilliant and singular vision to the screen,” said Gaiman.

Gormenghast, which follows the intrigues and politics of a castle the size of a city, was last onscreen in a 2000 BBC production that starred Johathan Rhys Meyers.
