Margot Kidder of Superman Fame Has Died

Margot Kidder, Lois Lane to Christopher Reeves’s Superman, has died. She was 69.

Born in Canada, Kidder worked in television and low-budget films until her breakthrough role as the spunky reporter in 1978’s Superman and its sequels. She was also known for her performance as Kathy Lutz in The Amityville Horror in 1979.

Kidder suffered a breakdown in 1996 and was subsequently diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

More recently, Kidder had guest roles in Smallville, The L Word, and Brothers & Sisters. She won an Emmy award in 2015 for her work in R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour.

Kidder became a United States citizen in 2005, settling in Montana. She leaves behind a daughter, two grandchildren, and a legacy of social activism.

She will be missed.
