Marvel, Star Wars May Get Their Own Streaming Services

In the wake of Disney’s announced separation from Netflix, the Marvel and Star Wars franchises may get their own streaming services.

Disney CEO Bob Iger said the company is considering proprietary services for Marvel and LucasFilm, but no firm decision has yet been made. Iger stated that, “We’re mindful of the volume of product that would go into those services, and we want to be careful about that.” Iger also noted that Disney’s Marvel TV shows will remain on Netflix.

Star Wars and Marvel may still become part of the content on Disney’s new streaming service, which will launch in 2019. The service will feature new and back catalog content from Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Studios, and Disneynature that was previously licensed exclusively to Netflix.
