Robots Learning Directly from Humans Now

In our next installment of Terminator: Rise of the Machines, NVIDIA has revealed a new deep learning system that allows robots to watch and imitate a human in order to learn a task.

In this system, a robot observes a human perform a task and then generates a list of the steps needed to duplicate the task. A human can then review the list for accuracy before allowing the robot to perform the sequence of actions.

This technique lets the robots generate their own labeled training data synthetically, rather than relying on huge amounts of inputted data. Stan Birchfield and Jonathan Tremblay will be presenting their research at the International Conference on Robotics and Automation this week.
