Video Games Again Blamed for Turning People Violent

In response to the Parkland shootings and renewed calls for stronger gun-control, President Trump decided to hold a closed-door meeting about—violence in video games. “I’m hearing more and more people say the level of violence on video games is really shaping young people’s thoughts,” Trump said.

Sound familiar? It’s the same blame that has been lobbed at horror comics, television, heavy metal music, and Dungeons and Dragons.

The correlation between violent video games—or any media—and violent action is tenuous at best. But it is still an easier task to crack down on entertainment than it is to dig out the complicated root causes of the problem.
